 Job Summary

The Co-op Mechanical Engineer will assist the Engineering Department with design, purchasing, project management and production activities. Primary work involves using SolidWorks CAD software to assist with the design of trailers, structures and equipment for the engineering team to release to clients, suppliers and production members. Additional work will include developing 2D drawings of miscellaneous devices used on mobile solutions, editing drawings and helping to document Bills of Materials to accurately capture the true cost of projects. At the end of every rotation, you will present out deliverables, experiences and recommendations.

Other functions include:
  • Help develop methods to improve communication and exchanges with Production and Quality
  • Increase efficiency of design release to purchasing, improving project lead-times
  • Utilizing Business Central (ERP) to create ECRs and part numbers for design engineering.
  • Help edit and format engineering standards and checklist documentation.
  • Assist with editing and formatting of Mobile Solution User Manuals and Information binders.
  • Verify dimensions and nameplates of trailers and equipment.
  • Assist with development of 2D fabrication drawings, for such things like trailers, racking mechanisms and support structures.
  • Create 3D models of various HV equipment, like Circuit Breakers, Transformers and Arresters.
  • Create default trailer models for use in initial development of customer approval models/drawings.
  • Assist with troubleshooting solutions to day-to-day production issues.
  • Assist with editing of DevOps format for project workflow.
  • Execute cost reduction measures to existing, repeated engineering designs.
  • Assist with development and regular release of customer project schedules.
  • Other duties as assigned

What you will be working on: this should include projects
 
  • This position will be exposed to numerous projects, such as Mobile Substations, Mobile Capacitor Banks, Mobile Switches, and Mobile Circuit Breakers.
  • This position will focus heavy attention on upcoming Mobile Circuit Breaker projects for three different clients.
  • For those Mobile Circuit Breakers, this position will assist with 3D modeling and 2D drafting needs to help push the designs from concepts to realized solutions.
  • This position will work closely with engineering management and the project lead engineer to identify

Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Education: Student enrolled in a four-year degree program, majoring in Engineering who has completed their freshman year of college.
  • Experience: Working knowledge of SolidWorks or other CAD software.
  • Must be willing to work 3 or more rotating semesters.
  • Experience in or knowledge of metal cutting
  • Experience in or knowledge of metal cutting processes / machinery.
