Job Summary:

This position compiles and maintains material & parts inventory & status information to expedite movement of commodities from purchase to delivery.

The Buyer maintains thorough working knowledge of assigned commodities, analyzes requirements from the MRP and places purchase orders timely to ensure materials availability. This position compiles and maintains material & parts inventory & status information to expedite movement of commodities from purchase to delivery.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assures that the commodity is delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price and meets the quality standards of the company.
- Maintains timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices and other documents to assure accurate retention of records.
- Reads production schedules, inventory reports, & work orders to determine type & quantity of materials required, availability of stock, and order priority.
- Reviews and maintains inventory control information such as consumption rate, characteristics of items in storage and current market conditions, to determine stock supply and need for replenishment.
- Resolves invoice discrepancies with accounting department when necessary
- Resolves supplier's problems associated with discrepant material, rework, scrap, over shipments, shortages and is responsible for the disposal of obsolete or excess material.
- Expedite deliveries as necessary, investigate and resolve daily receiving/invoicing issues.
- Confers with department supervisors to determine overdue material and parts and to inform supervisors of material status.
- When applicable, examines material received, verifies part numbers, and checks discrepancies such as damaged or unmarked parts.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree.
- Experience: 1+ years of related experience and/or training.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from both internal and external customers.
- Good work record, including attendance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience in manufacturing involving metal machining and fabrication.
- Ability to read blueprints.
