Job Summary:
Southern States is a highly diverse manufacturing facility developing engineer-to-order products for customers. The Manufacturing Engineering department is responsible for providing support across all corporate manufacturing divisions and is seeking to expand the team with a hands-on, analytical, and progressive individual to grow the organization into a $500M company through the development of manufacturing capabilities and efficiency gains. The team member must juggle multiple projects simultaneously and be synergistic with others in positions of varying calibers.
Southern States manufacturing operations include a full-scale fabrication shop specializing in structural fabrications and copper processing, a machine shop with both manual and CNC equipment, a silver-plating department, offsite manufacturing partners, and many assembly areas designed for various product lines. The manufacturing engineering team is responsible for support to all areas, through the development of tools, dies, fixtures, and rapid improvement events. The team also manages new equipment specifications, planning, and implementation focused on efficiency gains and cost reductions. Other team functions include data analytics, new product launch support, facility redesign, and manufacturing software support.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Design (3D model – SolidWorks), build, and test assembly tooling, machining fixtures, welding jigs, and die sets.
- Specify, evaluate, quote, and coordinate capital equipment investments and purchases from conception to installation.
- Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods within all departments.
- Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow.
- Design layout of equipment and workspaces for maximum efficiency.
- Work with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
- Lead and plan cost reductions and product launch
- Plan, design and implement rapid improvement (lean, 6 sigma) technology to reduce production lead times and work-in-process inventory.
- Confer with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for the purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
- Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
- Coordinate with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
- Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
- Interface with peers, suppliers, and industry organizations to research and develop new process designs and technology concepts.
- Support teams with quotes and assistance to the manufacturing, quality, development, and program staff, as required.
- Lead and mentor other manufacturing engineers
- Attend training sessions, seminars, and conferences to expand job knowledge and skills repertoire.
- Learn new software tools for manufacturing
- Support and adhere to corporate policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management or related technical degree.
- Must be able to read 2D drawings
- Experience: 4+ years of related work experience
- Demonstrate proficiency in AutoCAD/SolidWorks
- Project management experience required: must demonstrate leadership, teamwork, collaboration, creativity, and innovation.
- Working knowledge and application of Lean Six Sigma.
- Ability to lead and function in a team environment, while effectively communicating across various levels of the organization.
- Self-motivated with strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with tooling and die
- CNC machining and fabrication experience
- Knowledge of processes involving capital purchases and implementations
- Experience in Lean Six Sigma
- Coding languages
- Automation and PLC Experience
