Position Summary
The Southern States LLC Tool Grinder Operates various grinding machines to sharpen and salvage cutting and punching tools. Disassembles die sets, replaces damaged components, and reassembles. Performs basic machining tasks on manual milling machines and lathes. Assists in the day-to-day operation of the tooling and supply room.

How You Will Add Value:
- Reads blueprint, work order and tooling instructions for specifications such as hole locations and size, feed rates, setting speeds and cutting tools to be used.
- Selects proper grinding machine and wheels to sharpen cutting or punching tooling.
- Operates grinding equipment to grind tooling to proper size, angle and point.
- Measure sharpened tools to verify conformance to specifications.
- Dresses abrasive wheel to change cutting action or shape.
- Disassemble die sets, evaluate condition of tooling, sharpen or replace components as required.
- Set up and operate manual milling machine and/or lathe to perform basic machining on custom tooling, die/fixture components, or part prototypes.
- Store and retrieve tools, fixtures, and supplies from tool crib.
- Cleans machine, tooling, and parts.
- Performs machine maintenance as required and checks oil levels daily.
- Maintains working area in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
Education and/or Experience:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- One-year machine tool / machinist certificate from college or technical school; or two to and three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to convert decimal and fractional dimensions. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals. Ability to use advanced machinist handbook formulas. Ability to use a wide array of mathematical and geometric devices, such as, calculators, protractors, scales, calipers, micrometers, etc.
